Visit all your local shops and look through EVERY artists personal portfolio of work he or she has done. Choose an artist that you like, whos personal style you would like to see come through in your tattoo.

Talk to that artist personally about your idea, describe it as well as you can. The artist should ask you questions about the size, color scheme and basic style or shape. Tell them that you really like their style and you hope for them to draw for you based on your rough ideas.

Usually studios require a deposit to draw for you (that may or may not apply to the cost of your tattoo, ask your artist as it varies from studio to studio state to state).

Chances are, they will come up with something that you’ll really like. Also, since this can be a large project it is a definite plus that your artist is Interested and excited to to it. If the artist you speak to doesn’t seem at all interested or gives you an feelings that they’re not really that interested, ask them to suggest a different artist, or just keep looking for the right artist.
